Apple Earnings & iPhone software

Apple is set to release earnings earnings this Tuesday. The stock market got the shit kicked out of it today, and unsatisfactory earnings from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) on Tuesday would likely take another bite out of the Tech sector...possibly bleeding into other sectors of the market as well.

Furthermore, Apple is set to release an "iPhone software road map" this Thursday. Apparently this will give users (and on lookers that are too broke to afford an iPhone, but still follow the news like they are tight enough to own one) an idea of what to expect in the future in regard to iPhone software upgrades.

Here are two pieces of interesting news in regard to Apple. I'm happy about both items.

"Apple announces its updated MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook lines with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives and 2GB of memory standard in most models. In addition, MacBook Pro includes the latest NVIDIA graphics processors, now with up to 512MB of video memory, and Apple's Multi-Touch trackpad, first introduced in MacBook Air. The new MacBook and MacBook Pro models are now shipping and available. The 2.1 GHz, 13-inch white MacBook, has a suggested retail price of $1,099; the 2.4 GHz, 13-inch white MacBook, has a suggested retail price of $1,299."

"CNET News.com reports when T-Mobile began selling Apple's iPhone in Germany last fall, a legal skirmish ensued, forcing the wireless carrier to sell it untethered to a contract--at $1,460, no less. T-Mobile eventually persuaded a court that the two-year contract was legal. Now that same kind of European rule would be imported into the United States -- meaning AT&T would be legally required to sell a contract-free iPhone -- if a new Democratic proposal in the U.S. House of Representatives becomes law. Sponsored by Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), a liberal congressman who serves as chairman of a House telecommunications and Internet panel, it's similar to but somewhat more sweeping than a bill proposed in the Senate last year. His subcommittee has scheduled a hearing on the plan for Wednesday morning. The draft legislation says every mobile provider 'shall offer to consumers the opportunity to purchase subsidy-free wireless customer equipment.'"

Air Jordan XX3 Black/Varsity Red - Stealth

Last Saturday's release of the White/Black - Varisty Red Jordan XX3's was very successful. The J's flew off shelves, and quickly reached as high as $400 a pair on ebay.

This Saturday, the Black/Varsity Red - Stealth color way is releasing (pictured above). Early listings on ebay of this color way suggest the resale value will be much lower...so don't expect a quick flip opportunity with the "Stealths". That said, you better wake up early if you want to get your hands on a pair!

The House of Hoops in NYC are releasing P.E.'s for the first time ever. Not those modified Air Jordan 22's like last year, but actual Retro 8's in player specific colors. The Ray Allen Black/Green 8's and the Q Rich Knick colored 8's will be releasing later this month in Harlem. I don't know how I feel about the Ray Allen joints, but the Q Rich joints are niiiiice.

More on the Big Meech Story

This news is a little dated, but still interesting...

"Black Mafia Family (B.M.F.) kingpin, Demetrius Flenory (a.k.a. Big Meech) pleaded guilty to operating a continuing criminal enterprise, which was responsible for drug distribution and money laundering.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the 39-year-old drug kingpin pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn in Detroit, admitting to heading his criminal enterprise from 1990 to 2005, which generated millions of dollars from the sale of cocaine.

The proceeds of the drug sales were laundered through real estate purchases and used to buy a slew of vehicles and jewelry. Under the terms of the plea bargain, he agreed to forfeit $270 million to the government.

He faces 30 years to life in prison. A sentencing hearing has yet to be set.

On Tuesday (November 20), Demetrius' brother, Tony Flenory, pled guilty to the same charges and faces the same consequences.

Five other defendants, which involved 58 defendants, are expected to go to trial next year.

Last month, celebrity jeweler, Jacob The Jewelry (real name: Jacob Arabov) pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents and falsifying records about the true ownership of jewelry agents seized from Terry Flenory and others. As a result of the plea bargain, he faces a 37 to 46 months sentence and must forfeit $2 million in cash.

BMF was also run as a record label. Their flagship artist, Bleu DaVinci, was indicted in early October for conspiracy to distribute cocaine."

I'm not opposed to the whole Air Jordan/Air Force 1 Fusion concept. That said, I'm not feelin' this particular color way of the Jordan 5 Fusion set to hit stores in Spring '08. I don't know...sometimes shit grows on me (not literally), but I doubt these will.
